Osteos and Exercise Physiologists: It’s a match
Your neck is tight and sore and you feel like you’ve got a jackhammer pounding away in your head, so you call your Osteopath. Treatment sorts it out and you feel great. They give you a couple of exercises that help. You do them for a few days, but then life gets busy and you’re feeling good, so you forget about them. Sound familiar?
Then BAM! Your neck pain rears its ugly head again and you’re back at the Osteo with the same problem, wondering if there is a better way.
And there is! That is why we love working with exercise physiologists. They’re known as EPs for short.
What is an Exercise Physiologist (EP)?
EPs are allied health professional with extensive training in understanding the body's response to exercise.
As anyone who has been to one will know, they are much more than a personal trainer or gym instructor. Exercise physiologists do a degree in exercise in which they spend considerable time learning about movement patterns and how to improve them. Their knowledge extends deeper than that though. EPs are taught to use exercise as a form of medicine. There is a growing body of research showing how we can use exercise to improve conditions such as gestational diabetes, heart disease and treatment for cancer.
Why do we love working with EPs at Pivot Osteopathy?
At Pivot Osteopathy we like to help you get your body moving. Tight, sore muscles, especially from repetitive postures or chronic injuries can be hard to exercise. However, at Pivot we also care about long-term change. For some people, Osteopathic treatment isn’t enough to improve their movement patterns long-term. That is why we love working with EPs.
In our experience the results are better and longer lasting when EPs and Osteos work together, particularly on chronic conditions. We like to think that we help get you moving well and EPs keep you moving and get you stronger in the process.
We often refer to EPs in our area, but we’ve never had any on-site. Until now! We’re so excited to be setting up a second clinic alongside the wonderful team at Pear Exercise Physiology.
Pear is a multidisciplinary women’s health studio, and the leading experts in Australia on exercise and health to support women through all stages of life.
Come visit us at our new Wavell Heights studio. We’re so excited about this collaboration and we hope you will be too.
